Have you ever wanted to make your own leather or fur?
In this intensive hands-on course, you will learn the skills and process of turning animal hides into rawhide, buckskin or furs and pelts.
Turning the hide of an animal into leather (buckskin) or fur to use for clothing or as a blanket is one of the most amazing processes, and has been worn by native peoples all around the world at some point.
What you will be doing.
In this workshop you will learn how to:
- Prepare the hide or fur for tanning
- The actual tanning process
- The finishing process to make the leather durable
Some of the skills covered are:
- Fleshing
- Bucking
- Graining
- Braining
- Softening
- Smoking
The course will pass on a greater understanding of buckskin or fur preparation, and at the end of it, you will have a piece of leather ready to be created into something memorable.
